A pool ruled into turquoise squares on one coast. A hand carved mandala going green with fern on another. Volume 189 lives in the narrow gap between what people build and what the tropics reclaim.
MILENA SCHELLER
Photographer: ArtofLiving
Location: Sri Lanka
Milena spends the issue between two kinds of water. One is a long infinity pool ruled into turquoise squares, still enough to hold the palms upside down. The other is the open coast just below it, all dark boulders and surf that will not be told what to do. She swims the ruled one and sunbathes the wild one.
IRENE (Unfiltered)
Photographer: Jessee B
Location: Bali
Jessee B takes Irene deep into the green, to a place where someone once carved a full mandala into stone and the jungle has been quietly taking it back ever since. She works the fern beds and the mossed boulders in an olive string bikini and a thin gold chain across the hips, then less, blonde and warm lit against foliage almost black with shade, a handful of frames pulled down to a stream in stark black and white. Sacred stone, wild growth, nothing between them.
